課程目標
Projects and products that could have been successful often fail because of the wrong assumption that project and product management is only breaking them into works, assigning them to individuals, and then waiting for the works to be done on time, within budget, and with expected specifications and customer satisfaction. It is generally difficult to successfully manage a project/product in terms of time, cost, and performance simultaneously. Therefore, it is important to understand how to manage projects and products, especially new products.
This course introduces the concepts, techniques, theories, and applications of project and product management. Both organizational behavior issues and quantitative methods are included. In this course, three important aspects of project management are taught:
- basic core of knowledge needed in project management for the entire project life cycle: concept, definition, organizational structures, and management functions
- supporting functions for the entire project life cycle: time management, conflicts
- hard core of project management in different phases of project life cycle: planning, scheduling, cost control and estimation, and risk management
Furthermore, five important aspects of product management are taught: opportunity identification and selection, concept generation, concept/project evaluation, development, and launch.
